Local MP Seema Malhotra mentioned the Hounslow-Ramallah Twinning Association in her contribution to a Parliamentary debate in the House of Commons on Monday 13th October 2014.
The MP for Feltham and Heston (one of the London Borough of Hounslow’s two constituencies) was speaking in support of the motion “That this House believes that the Government should recognise the state of Palestine alongside the state of Israel, as a contribution to securing a negotiated two state solution.”. Seema Malhotra said –
“My Honourable Friend is making a powerful speech. Hundreds of constituents have also written to me on this matter, and it was discussed by the Hounslow-Ramallah Twinning Association last Friday night. Does she agree that a downside of our not supporting Palestinian statehood today could be that it will give succour to those who do not want to see a political settlement?”
The motion was carried by 274 votes in favour to 12 against, and Seema Malhotra’s words have been recorded in Hansard, the official transcript of Parliamentary debates.
